POSTERS featuring a 'dog poo fairy' are being used to tackle problems with canine fouling in Teignmouth. A campaign has been launched aimed at tackling unsightly messes created by dogs and left in the streets by their owners.
The campaign is the brainchild of Teignmouth Town Council and is being championed by councillors Paul Burgess and Donald Baldey.
It is the result of partnership working between the town council, Teignbridge Council, Teignmouth Traders and concerned local residents.
Posters using the 'dog poo fairy' will be displayed around the town and in known trouble spots. Posters will contain details on how residents can report offenders to Teignbridge Council which can take action to combat the problem.
The campaign, supported by Teignmouth Traders, Teignbridge Council and local residents, was officially launched on Saturday, September 10, in The Triangle.
Cllr Burgess said: "Dog fouling is an important issue for many of our residents who want action to address this form of anti-social behaviour.
"The town council is determined to meet these concerns and get the message across that dog owners who allow their dogs to do that and not clean up will be prosecuted.
Teignmouth Traders chairman Andy Robinson said: "Traders wholeheartedly support this campaign and any measures taken to keep Teignmouth tidy will always be welcome by both visitors and traders."
